President asks Indonesian diplomats to help attract investment

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono asked Indonesian diplomats Thursday to proactively help attract investment to the country in order to meet Rp 2,000 trillion (US$ 214 billion) in investment fund target per year.

The targeted investment is designed to help the nation reach its seven percent rate in economic growth by 2014.

“The sources of investment are expected from major countries, such as China , Japan , European countries and Australia ,” said the President in a meeting with Foreign Ministry officials at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta .

In response to the President's remarks, Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa said that the diplomats are ready to answer the request.

“We are trying not only to seek for opportunities, but also create opportunities [in investment],” said Marty as quoted by tempointeraktif.com. (nkn)
