Indonesian Cultural Festival, 15-16 April 2009

London was treated to a feast of Indonesian cultural heritage ranging from dance and music to crafts, fashion and cuisine during a two day Indonesian Festival on 15 and 16 April.

Highlights were a special dance and music performance at the Horniman Museum, Dulwich, on 15 April, as part of its programme to hold a special exhibition of Balinese culture in 2012.

On Thursday 16 April leading representatives of the British travel industry gathered at the Central Hall, Westminster, for a business meeting with Sapta Nirwandar, Director General of marketing at the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, to discuss the plans for Visit Indonesia 2009 and future plans for the further strengthening of Anglo-Indonesian tourist links.

This was followed by a special Indonesian gala dinner in the Great Hall of Central Hall where the invited guests were not only treated to excellent samples of Indonesian cuisine, but also a dazzling cultural performance and an exciting fashion show by leading Indonesian designer Stephanus Hammy and the introduction of a delightful new range of Indonesian jewellery from the Mutumanikam Nusantara organisation based on Indonesia’s ancient silver and gold smith crafts.

The Indonesian Cultural Festival was organised by Indonesian Embassy in London in cooperation with the Department of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia.
