Papua Police on Thursday named three suspects in a case involving a month-long airstrip occupation by 150 armed people in Memberamo regency.
Sr. Comr. Bambang Rudi Pratiknyo, chief of Papua Police crime unit, said the three suspects were Nela Yenseren of Biak , Agus Silo of Kampung Kajasi Biakm and Melkianus Soromaja of Kosanoweja.
“After investigation, we officially charged them under Article 106 of the Criminal Code for treason against the state,” he told Antara state news agency.
Bambang said Nela admitted he came to the Kapeso airstrip under the orders of, and after threats from, Decky Nembiri, who allegedly deserted the Indonesian Military (TNI) and is one of the leaders of Free Papua Organization (OPM) separatist group.
An anti-terror police unit managed to retake the isolated airstrip early Saturday. Two members of the armed group and a civilian were killed in the raid. (dre)
