A joint National and Papua Police team has arrested five residents allegedly involved in recent attacks on U.S-mining giant PT Freeport Indonesia , which claimed three lives.
Deputy Head of the Public Relations Division of the National Police, Brig. Gen. Sulistyo Ishak, said Thursday that investigators were questioning the residents.
“We just detained them today so we have yet to determine their status in the case,” Sulistyo said, as quoted by state news agency Antara.
The police have named six people as suspects and charged them under Articles 338, 340 and 351 of the Criminal Code, which carry a maximum sentence of death.
Sulistyo added that he suspected the five residents belonged to the same group as earlier apprehended suspects, as they had the family name.
Head of the Public Relations Division of the National Police, Ir. Gen. Nanan Sukarna, said that the officers were still looking for the mastermind of the attack.
“Those who were captured are not the main perpetrators. They just helped in the attack,” Nanan
