The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) launched Tuesday a new website focusing on reducing emissions from deforestation and degradation -- the REDD scheme.
The website, www.redd-indonesia.org, is jointly managed by the CIFOR, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Indonesia and the Indonesian Environmental Information Center (PILI).
PILI executive director Pam E. Minnigh said the website would serve as a reference for anyone interested in the REDD issues.
“It is an interactive website. Anybody could also post their comments about REDD,” she said. “By encouraging Indonesian stakeholders at all levels to share information and create a community of learning, this website will contribute to the growing national and international discussion of REDD, climate change and forest conservation.”
The website features research, news and background information about REDD options.
Negotiators from about 190 countries across the world will discuss REDD as an emissions reducing mechanism during the UN climate change meeting in Copenhagen in December.
