TEMPO Interactive, Serang, West Java:The family of Imam Samudra, one of those convicted to death in the first Bali bombing case, will carry out legal efforts prior to the execution of Samudra.

They said they hoped that the government would not ignore the annulment of Law No.16/2003 on the implementation of Government Regulation No.2/2002 on the Eradication of Terrorism Crimes.

“We will ask the Constitutional Court’s ruling on the annulment of Law No.16/2003 on the Implementation of Government Regulation No.2/2002 on the Eradication of Retroactive Terrorism Crimes. There must be a balance in the granting of the ruling as regards the bombers,” stated Agus Setiawan, the lawyer of Imam Samudra’s family in Serang, on Monday (24/10).

On Monday (24/10), Lulu Djamaludin, Imam Samudra’s brother, together with Agus Setiawan, came to Serang District Court to sign a letter filing for clemency rights.

Following the signing of the letter, Setiawan requested that the government appreciate the efforts carried out by Imam Samudra’s family in conducting legal efforts prior to the execution ruling being carried out.

Previously, Serang District Court chairman Husni Rizal said that after receiving the notification letter from the Denpasar District Court on Thursday (20/10), Rizal had sent two employees of Serang District Court to meet the family of Imam Samudra in Lopang Gede Serang village.

“We’ve met them twice, but they still refused to sign the letter regarding clemency rights,” stated Rizal.
Setiawan said that the process of the letter signing was slow because Samudra’s family respected the stance of Imam Samudra in refusing the clemency appeal to the president.

In addition to legal efforts, the family of Imam Samudra will also meet with Samudra at the Nusakambangan prison.

“The family is to confirm whether or not Samudra will request for a clemency,” stated Setiawan.
