Visit to the United Kingdom by the Indonesian Minister for Finance

 

 
 
 

The Indonesian Minister for Finance, H.E. Dr. Sri Mulyani Indrawati, was in the UK for an official visit on 14th to 15th January 2008. During her visit she met with her counterparts from the UK Government namely the Chief Secretary to the Treasury, the Rt. Hon Andy Burnham, MP, the Secretary of State for International Development, the Rt. Hon. Douglas Alexander MP together with Parliamentary Under Secretary of State of DFID the Rt. Hon Shahid Malik, MP, and Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Meg Munn, MP, in separate meetings.

On the first day, the Minister gave talks in two Business Meetings. The first meeting was the Business Luncheon hosted by the Indonesia-British Business Council, where she met prominent UK business men whose companies are investing in Indonesia. The second meeting was with the representatives from the UK financial sector. The later was hosted by the Lord Mayor of the City of London, Alderman David Lewis.

On the second day of visit, Tuesday 15th January 2008, Dr. Mulyani went to Oxford and gave a public lecture on Challenges of Globalization for Indonesia. The lecture, hosted by Global Economic Governance Programme, touched among others, Indonesia’s experiences in reforming the Government from Centralization to Decentralization and emphasised on the positive evidence such as improvements in education and health system obtained by Indonesia through the implementation of democratization and good governance. She also explained that human development is also needed in order to meet the quality of conducting good governance.

During her two-day visit Dr. Sri Mulyani Indrawati was accompanied by Head of  the Agency for Fiscal Analysis of the Ministry of Finance, Dr. Anggito Abimanyu, and Head of the Centre of Policy Analysis and Harmonization of the Ministry of Finance, Dr Agus Suprijanto.
