INDONESIAN TRADITIONAL DINNER BY
THE ANGLO-INDONESIAN SOCIETY

On Tuesday, 22nd April 2008, the Indonesian Embassy in London was hosting a traditional Indonesian dinner for members of the Anglo-Indonesian Society. Around 60 members of the Society who were attending the semi-formal diner were thrilled by Kalio Ayam, Rendang Kambing and Rendang Daging as well as Indonesia’s traditional cakes prepared by Sri Owen and Ika Whitehead.

Sri also gave a short talk about her choice of food for the menu and explaining how traditional Indonesian food could be cooked in a practical way in a modern kitchen without any loss of the flavour and spiciness of the original recipes.

Born in West Sumatra before World War 2 and married to Roger Owen, Sri is a freelance food and cookery writer, a travelling cookery teacher and a food consultant. Her latest book, “Sri Owen’s Indonesian Food” will be launched in early September 2008. Sri and Ika are scheduled to give a cookery demonstration and lunch at Asia House on 2nd July 2008.

Currently they are at the final step of their plan to give private cooking classes at Ika’s house in Cobham, Surrey, and Sri’s House in Wimbledon. Their email-addresses are: sriowen@sriowen.com and ikawhitehead@yahoo.co.uk. (KP)
