WADAH Talk Show with BRR Aceh-Nias

Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia, together with Wadah (Indonesian Community in the UK) held a talk show at the Indonesian Embassy, Crutacala Room, on Friday, 27 June 2008, with three distinguished speakers, namely, Teuku Kamaruzzaman (Secretary-General of Aceh and Nias Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Board), Nurdin Abdurrahman (Head of Aceh Museum), and Dr. Annabel Gallop (Head of South and Southeast Asia Section, the British Library). They delivered their presentations on recent developments taking place in Aceh and Nias as to promote better understanding of the outcomes of Indonesia’s as well as the international community’s efforts to rebuild Aceh and Nias.

The talk show’s theme itself was underlining the efforts to restore Aceh’s heritage, in particular Aceh’s unique ancient Al Quran manuscripts. The talk show proved to be of great interest for not only Indonesian people living in the UK but also local communities as well as UK-based NGOs. The speakers’ presentations particularly drew endless questions from those who were present and there were also participants conveying their wishes for other similar events organized by the Embassy and Wadah. Therefore, the Indonesian Embassy in London and Wadah plan to hold more discussions in the future and the next schedule will be duly announced on the Embassy’s website as well as via Wadah’s mailing list.
