On Friday, 11 November 2005, DR. Raden Mohammad Marty Muliana Natalegawa, B.SC, M.PHIL was inaugurated by the President of the Republic of Indonesia as the Indonesian Ambassador to the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland. He is also accredited to the Republic of Ireland. The ceremony was held at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta.
Dr. Natalegawa is not a stranger to the Court of St James, he was educated in England and graduated from London School of Economics and Political Science for his B.Sc in International Relations, Corpus Christi College in Cambridge University for Master of Philosophy in International Relations and took his Doctor of Philosophy in International Relations from the Australia National University.
Married with three children, Dr. Natalegawa has an impressive experiences and knowledge of multilateral, bilateral and regional issues. His first posting was with the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Indonesia to the United Nations in New York 1994-1999. Returning from New York, he was Deputy Director for International Organization and afterward awarded as the Director for International Organization.
His most impressive position, where he is most popular among national and international journalist, was when he took up the Chief of Staff of the Office of the Minister for Foreign Affairs as well as the Spokesperson of the Department of Foreign Affairs 2002-2004. Later on he was appointed as the Director General for ASEAN Cooperation and still managed as the Spokesperson of the Department until present.
DR Natalegawa will soon resume the position left by DR. Juwono Sudarsono. The Embassy is looking forward to recommence co-operation and good relations both from the British Government as well as Republic of Ireland.
