On 30th May 2006 at 13.30, Deputy Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. John Prescott, MP, on behalf of the Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Tony Blair, MP and the people of the United Kingdom signed the Book of Condolence at The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia to convey the deep sympathy and condolences to those perished and those who lost their families to the disaster which struck Yogyakarta last Saturday, 27 May 2006.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia, H.E. DR. R.M. Marty M. Natalegawa conveyed the Indonesian Government’s deep appreciation to the British Government for its relentless support and assistance during this trying time for the Indonesia people.

The British Government has pledged £4 Million to be channelled through UN Agencies and the International Red Cross.

Also present to sign the Book of Condolence on behalf of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Under Parliamentary Secretary for State, Lord David Triesman.

Among those who signed the Book were Ambassadors and High Commissioners accredited to the Court of St. James’ as well as business representatives and members of the public
